Special Carriers | Donuts
Duration: 3 Weeks | Fall 2019
Design Brief: Design a cardboard carrier for four or more donuts that considers form, function, and user experience for visitors attending a dinner party.
Approach: The primary interaction that characterizes this carrier is the mechanism toggling between the open and closed states of the carrier. When the handle is lifted, the lid snaps shut and the carrier is closed. When the carrier is set down however, the handle slides down opening the lid and revealing the donuts.
The primary motivator driving this interaction was creating an enjoyable experience. I wanted users to experience curiosity, surprise, then satisfaction when they first discovered the mechanism. To emphasize this interaction, I tried to optimize the sound of the lid hitting the frame and the smoothness of the lifting action.
